If
you wish to enroll a student from outside the United States, in order
to obtain their F-1 (student) visa, the student will need to complete
the documents below to be issued an I-20. This is a government form
that tells the U.S. government that (1) the international applicant
is or expects to be a "bona fide" student; 2) the applicant meets
our schools' admissions requirements; (3) the applicant will pursue
a full course of study; (4) the applicant's parents or guardian proved
to us that there will be sufficient money for them to study and live
in the U.S. without working illegally or suffering from poverty.
This form will potentially allow the student to obtain their F-1
visa and subsequently allow them to enter the U.S. and travel while
they are enrolled full-time in an academic program in a SEVIS-approved
school.
The top six (top three left, top three right) documents below are part of a group
of documents required by the Department of Catholic Schools to allow them to
register the student with SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System)
and issue an I-20 document. Please make sure to read the instructions carefully,
and check that all requested documents are present and complete before sending
to the Department of Catholic Schools.
Once the student has successfully entered the country with their I-20 document,
he or she may travel outside the United States for up to 2 months at a time
per year, as long as he or she is carrying his or her visa, an I-20 with
a current signature, a valid passport and an I-94 when they re-enter the
United States. A signature from a designated signing officer at the Department
of Catholic Schools is required each year following
the issue date for
the I-20 to be considered valid for the purpose of travel.
Administrators:
Please inform the Department of Catholic Schools when/if an international
student:
arrives in the U.S. initially, preferably before they begin classes
does not arrive after an I-20 has been issued
drops below full-time attendance or otherwise does not follow his or her
academic program satisfactorily
is about to graduate
is transferring to a new school
has left the country for longer than 2 months
requires an extention to their program to successfully complete it
